Eek is a Yup'ik village with a population of around 300 people. 98% of the population is Native Alaskan (Yup'ik), 1% Hispanic, 1% white. The languages spoken in the village are Yugtun and English. The Dual Language program at the school seeks to keep the traditional language alive while giving students access to English. Many of the families in Eek rely on subsistence traditions.
Eek is in the Bethel Census area, with the hub community of Bethel approximately 50 miles to the northeast.
Eek is mainly a boardwalk community, with only one dirt road connecting the outdoor airstrip with the rest of town. Eek has a United States Post Office, a Yukon-Kuskokwim-Health-Center clinic, and the Iqfijouaq Company, the town store.
